3D MODELING
Psychogeographic Map
‘Spacial Ultrasound’ is a psycho-geographic exploration of Ferdinand Foch park. After a walk around the park, I quickly realised that what had at first glance appeared pleasant had an underbelly of dirt and chaos. In the midst of this supposed natural retreat from and within the heart of the city, was a condensation of urbanity - compression, pulsation and pollution. Whilst at the park I took photographs, videos, audios and notes about what I was witnessing and how this environment made me feel. I then compiled my research and created a fictional embodiment of the park in the form of a creature in 3D software.
The result is a mythological mascot to represent the experiential anatomy of Ferdinand Foch park. Its lumpy amorphous body and pigeon-like claws are an ode to the pigeons which outnumbered any other wildlife in the enclosure. Their diseased feet ruled over measly patches of grass as park goers shooed away the ‘vermin’ (or unsung kings of Ferdinand Foch). The green drip coming out of my creature represents the petrol and smog that it feeds off of, as the park is surrounded by construction work and constant traffic. His crooked posture is an ode to the park benches which don’t have proper back support and because I only caught people eating fast-food, his skin had to be an unhealthy green/grey. Finally, his wrinkled wings are composed of photographs I took in the park and then crumpled and placed within him to show my own process in gathering trash from the park and digesting it through him to create a representative mascot.
